Heute sah ich in der Bibliothek eine Fachzeitschrift mit dem folgenden Titel:

OBST

Es handelt sich natürlich um die berühmten Osnabrücker Beiträge zur Sprachtheorie , die wohl performativ Ferdinand de Saussures These der Arbitrarität sprachlicher Zeichen nachvollziehen. (Wäre jetzt meine Interpretation. Vielleicht war auch einfach nur jemand ganz besonders akronymverliebt: Schließlich findet man OBST im Internet bei LINSE, dem Linguistik-Server Essen. Jetzt bitte keinen Hunger kriegen).

When they were naming the Brussels Sprouts, the people at Thompson-Morgan were positively Shakespearean. There is a Bosworth variety as well as a sprout called Falstaff. But the most evocative sprout has to be Revenge. It makes perfect sense: What could Lavinia and Titus have had as their last sustenance other than bitter Brussels Sprouts?
